Almerigo Borgo Sr.

Born in 1931 in Cogollo del Cengio in the Region of Veneto, Italy, Almerigo came from a family of cheesemakers, including his father Gugliemo, and his grandfather Lorenzo. He began by producing the local Asiago cheese, both fresh and aged. In 1950-1951 he successfully completed a certificate from Latteria Di Datica Pietro Marconi Thiene. In 1954, he immigrated to Canada.
In 1956, Almerigo started making cheese in Ontario Canada, and in 1957 he began an independent operation making cheese in Orangeville, Ontario. In the early days, he processed 80 L a day of milk, making ricotta, mozzarella, provolone and scamorza.
In 1966 he moved the company to Toronto. In 1971 and 1972 he was awarded with a gold medal from the "Attestato di Benemerenza" by the Camera di Commercio Industria Artigianato e Agricoltura di Vicenza.
In 1987 he left the old venture and in 1988 started Quality Cheese with his children. Processing 50,000 L a day, today he produces Bocconcini, Borgonzola, Brie, Smoked Cheddar, Friulano, Mozzarella, Provolone, Ricotta and Scamorza.
